Lawyer

The Lawyer only appears in the Temple Garden scene. He has only a few lines. However, as Alan Dessen explained in a lecture at the Blackfriar’s this summer, the lawyer represents Law in this scene. He is a kind of residual allegorical character, his lack of a name makes his profession the only defining characteristic. His appearance in the scene, and his backing of York, indicates that the Law is on the side of York.
